Changing Peoples Lives

Is hypnosis the magic bullet?

The magic bullet, people, especially Americans are enamored
with the idea that there is a magic bullet that will fix everything. Need lower
gasoline prices, drill more. Need to lose weight, take a magic pill. Need to
get rich, check out the latest late night infomercial.

They approach lifestyle changes and hypnosis in the same
manner. They believe that it can magically get you to quit smoking, to lose
weight, to be healthier, happier and wealthier. Can it do these things? Yes,
within reason.

If the individual wants to make a change in their life,
hypnosis is a very effective means of facilitating the change. It allows the
individual to remove any limiting beliefs and replace them with empowering
beliefs. And, best of all, it does it quickly.

However, hypnosis has one limitation in common with every
other technique that is used to improve someone’s life. The person has to want
to change. This is the key, without this, hypnosis, just like every change
process will have limited success.

Why, because hypnosis cannot force anyone to do anything.
You’re not a robot blindly responding to the instructions of the hypnotist. You
have the ability to reject a suggestion at anytime while in hypnosis.

So, if your goal is losing weight and while in hypnosis you
continue to reject suggestions to eat properly, exercise more, and practice a
healthy lifestyle then you will continue to hold on to the weight.

The same is true for smokers. You’ve decided to quit so
that your spouse will stop nagging you (external motivation). You really don’t
want to quit smoking you only want to stop the nagging. Therefore, you have no
strong internal motivation. Without internal motivation, your subconscious is
more likely reject any suggestions that reference quitting smoking. As a
result, you continue to smoke and assume that hypnosis doesn’t work.

On the other hand, if you have strong internal reasons to
quit smoking or lose weight or get rid of an anchor that is holding you back
then hypnosis is quit effective. It can be the “magic bullet”. When you have a
strong desire and motivation to change, the subconscious readily accepts
suggestions that move you in a positive direction. Accept the suggestions into
the subconscious and the miraculous process of change begins.

Back to the original question, “Is hypnosis the magic
bullet?” Yes, in a sense, hypnosis can be the “magic bullet” if and only if you
are internally motivated to make a change in your life.

So, the next time you want to change your life for the
better, check out a professional hypnotist. You’ll be a better person for it.

Hypnosis, it’s interactive

I was reading through some blog entries the other day and
came across an entry that questioned whether or not hypnosis and more
specifically, hypnosis tape programs work. As I read the entry, one thought
jumped out at me. The writer believed that if she just played the tape then
magic would happen. Now I don’t know if the tape was a good tape or a, let’s
say, a less than adequate tape. It doesn’t matter, if all you do is listen to
it, even the best program will not be effective.

Most people who have never been properly educated about
hypnosis believe, like the writer above, that all they need to do is listen to
the tape program and somehow the program does it all for them. Nothing is
further from the truth. Hypnosis is an interactive experience.

Effective hypnosis sessions require the cooperation of the
person being hypnotized. If I give the person an instruction, let’s say to
relax their eyelids, they must follow this instruction. If they do, they’ve
taken a step to being hypnotized. If they do not, then they will not become
hypnotized.

The same is true of a suggestion. If I give a suggestion,
the person who is hypnotized must accept and act on the suggestion given. If
all they do is sit there and listen to the suggestion without accepting it, then
the suggestion will be discarded and have no effect. This is common when people
buy hypnotic tapes. They passively listen and get no benefit from the program.

If you’re going to spend your money to buy a hypnotic tape
for weight loss, to quit smoking, reduce stress or one of any number of reasons;
make sure you get your money’s worth by actively accepting and acting on the
suggestions given. The same is true if you go to a hypnotist.

Now that you know that hypnosis is an interactive process,
you’ll have much better results than someone who believes that all they have to
do is sit there. The programs work when you know how to make them work.

Hypnotherapy Finding Its Place in Alternative Care

Jun. 30–CONCORD — Just a day after Virginia Lieblein’s open-heart surgery, recovery ward nurses were aghast to find her leaned over the bathroom sink, hair frothy with shampoo. Feeling fine despite the ordeal, she was determined “not to have bed head.”

Weeks prior, however, Lieblein had been a nervous wreck. She was only 49. Felt out of control. And experienced the kind of pre-op terror that sent her heart racing.

What made the difference, explained Lieblein, now 53, was a kind of self-hypnosis — based on the work of Peggy Huddleston’s Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster — and the realization that harnessing the power of her mind had everything to do with her health — and recovery.
