Changing Peoples Lives

Using hypnosis to gain insight into your life

Hypnosis is not just about changing behaviors, sometimes it is used to gain insight.  Recently I’ve had a number of clients who have come to me seeking help with a variety of challenges.  In each of these cases there was not a behavior that required changing, all the client needed was some insight into why these issues kept popping up in their lives.

Here’s an example.  A client comes to my office seeking help to cope with stress.  The quick solution is to teach the person how to relax whenever they are feeling stressed.  However, that’s not the best option because they still feel stressed.  All I’ve done in this case is to give them a band-aid that they can apply to the stress.

What if instead we found out what was causing the stress?  Then the client would be able to address the root cause of the stress in a manner that prevents the stress from reoccurring.  That would be a better solution wouldn’t it?

This is where the use of hypnosis to gain insight comes into play.  The goal is not to use hypnosis to change a behavior, rather it is to use hypnosis to allow an individual to gain the insight necessary to help them understand a situation and then make the appropriate adjustments in their life.

Another example might be that the client is unhappy in their job but doesn’t know what to do.  Just like in the first example there is no behavior that needs to be changed.  What the client needs to know is why , at a deep level, the job is making them unhappy and then to gain an understanding of what they need to do to change the situation.

When you use hypnosis to gain insight the goal is to allow the client to gain enough information so that the client can make the necessary changes to their life.  They are not changing a behavior, they are changing the way they live their life.

When I work with a client for the purposes of gaining understanding or self-knowledge the process is driven by the client.  My role as the hypnotist is to help them get to an empowered state of mind in which they can then discover the root cause of their issue.

Over the years I’ve worked with a number of clients who have used this process to discover the cause and solutions to their stress, their anxiety and a variety of other issues.  I’ve also worked with clients who just had “questions”.  Questions about their life or about the direction they need to go in.

I find clients with “questions” to be fascinating to work with.  Here’s what I tell them before they come into see me.  Write down your questions.  Read them over to yourself prior to coming into the office.  I then put them into an empowered state of mind, give them some simple instructions and then turn it over to them.  I don’t need to know what the questions are and because many of the questions are of a highly personal nature, the clients find this reassuring.  When the client is finished then I emerge them from hypnosis and send them on their way.  They’ve gained the knowledge and understanding to resolve whatever issues were related to the questions.

So, if you’re looking to gain some insight into your life try hypnosis.  You just may find the answers you’ve been looking for.

Till next time…

Hypnosis used in dental procedure

Leslie Mason was facing a £400 bill for the procedure to be performed privately as his local surgery in Colchester, Essex, had exhausted its NHS budget.

Mr Mason, 54, instead chose to play the role of guinea pig to a Hertfordshire dentist’s unorthodox form of treatment, using hypnosis as the only painkiller.
